Update from Wednesday, October 11, 2023, 5:37 p.m.: The 22-year-old native of Münden who was killed in Israel by the Hamas attack (see initial report below) is said to be Carolin, who had studied in Germany in Berlin. This was confirmed by Mündens partnership representative Frank Stryga. Stryga said she was probably in Israel as a tourist.
According to Strygas information, she had a contact point with a friend in Ramat Gan near Holon. Carolins sister confirmed the death of Carolin and her British boyfriend in Kibbutz Nir Oz near the Gaza Strip in a post on the social network Instagram. According to Stryga, it was the sister who contacted him. Together with Holons partnership representative, he supported the return of the body to Germany.

Israel: In Hann. Woman born in Münden killed
She was in a kibbutz near the Gaza Strip at the time of the attack. Armed terrorists stormed the area and murdered the woman. The administrators of the kibbutz recognized the woman. According to Stryga, the Israeli partnership officer in Holon, Shiran Jacoby, among others, supports the womans relatives living in Germany in communicating with the authorities in Israel. Jacoby said in an interview with our newspaper that she expressed her deepest condolences to the family. The body was initially confiscated by the Israeli army, Stryga said. A DNA analysis is still pending. This is required for identification in Israel. The family in Germany filed a missing person report.
“I have been in constant contact with our Israeli partners and friends in Holon since the weekend,” said Stryga. They were caught completely unprepared by the attacks themselves. The return visit from Münden students to Israel should have taken place in ten days. This was canceled. According to current knowledge, no one of the exchange partners in Holon has been harmed so far. “There is complete chaos in the region, everyone is shocked,” Stryga continued.
Hann. Münden: Partnership with Holon in Israel
The situation must be a horror for exchange groups from other German cities that may still be in the country at the moment. Thats why he was relieved that the Münden exchange group hadnt left yet.
It was still a big shock for the Münden students because they knew the local partners personally and were of course worried about their friends. “This is also why we have scheduled a crisis meeting or discussion with the parents today,” Stryga said yesterday. Yesterday we spoke on the phone with partnership representative Shiran Jacoby from Holon.
“We are currently going through a very difficult time,” says the Israeli partnership representative in Hann. Mündens partnership Holon (Cholon), Shiran Jacoby, in a video conversation with our newspaper. But we will also get through this difficult time together.
Yesterday there were two rocket attacks on the city, which is about five kilometers from Tel Aviv. On Saturday in particular, large parts of Israel were under rocket fire. When the siren goes off, you retreat to a bunkered shelter, of which almost every house in Israel has one. The situation in the country is chaotic. Fortunately, the students who took part in the exchange with Hann. Münden participants are doing well.
The friendship with her German exchange partners from Hann. Münden has grown. They kept in touch via social networks such as Whatsapp and exchanged ideas.
Student exchange: “The future will show”
When asked if she was afraid, Jacoby replied that she would be lying if she didnt admit it. Any person affected by an attack or war would probably feel the same way. But she believes that the Israeli people are strong. It has always shown bravery when it comes to standing in the way of terrorists. This can be seen again now, as people help each other. Families from the war zone would find shelter with other families further away, could sleep there, get clothes and a warm shower. The motto: “One for all, all for one” is not the case
