I’m sad. An empathic teacher, passionate scholar and faithful friend passed away. It was a pleasure to know Gerd. There are so many memories over the years — some vivid, others a bit hazy in the mists of the receding years. I remember...
• translating (coptic) gnostic texts and providing an insight into the religious creativity of gnostic christians, who were branded heretics
• sympathy for „heterodoxy“ and diversity in early christianity
• searching, finding and being amazed together
• wrestling with hypocrisy and demanding freedom of speech
• respect for each others differing views
• working together for more than 25 years: reading texts, discussing various issues, writing books, drinking drinks („Cartoon“, Göttingen), enjoying delicious cakes („friday seminars“, Pfingstanger, Göttingen – thanks to Elke Lüdemann for her hospitality and warm welcome), sharing a similar sense of humor
• a lot of moments of courage and encouragement
Memories don‘t fade.
